McCain’s Canal Zone Birth Prompts Queries About Whether That Rules Him Out - New York Times

For a guy that loves a good constitutional debate, talk about yummy! McCain’s Canal Zone Birth Prompts Queries About Whether That Rules Him Out appears in the New York Times today. (The article is written by Carl Hulse and my father read the article in The Grand Rapids Press and was kind enough to show it to me).

Well, read the article, but the issue is the US Constitution says you must be a "natural-born citizen" to be president. So, since John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, the issue is in debate.

So, it seems that not only does the New York Times have an anti-McCain biases to it, so does the United States Constitution.

OMG! OMG! Paula Sorensen and Bowling Alone At Diamond Bowl!

Frequently mentioned in this blog, Paula Sorensen and Bowling Alone. Yes, you have asked for it, they are finally together at last!

Said Paula, " This is a very important book; it the de Tocqueille of our genernation. And you don't often hear an a singer-song writer like me say those sorts of things."

(Ok, this is actually a modified quote from the back of the book)

Having a ball | hugh.welsh@examiner.net

Hugh Wlesh at the Examiner does a nice write-up about the wonderful Diamond Bowl, called "Having a ball." Yeah, the article is about a month old, but some nice photos there.

I'm a sucker for bowling alleys. Maybe because Bowling Alone is one my favorite books. Maybe because Ed (Wikipedia entry or IMDB) is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. Maybe because I love the Independence Square.

Or maybe because Michelle, the manager is awesome. Maybe because the great Paula Sorensen works there when she isn't at the Main Street Coffee Shop and/or singing great songs.

Or maybe because the current plan is for Family Guy viewing on Sunday nights. Or maybe it is the minicheese burgers.

Or maybe, you should just check it out yourself.

It is located at 218 N Osage Street in Independence, Phone: 816.252.8003.

Harry S Truman bowled there, so should you!

Eros in the Agape City?

Over at Prime Buzz we learn that:

Erotic City in Blue Summit has shut down its porn video booths
and upstairs strip bar in the wake of a new Jackson County ordinance
regulating adult entertainment.

Berry F. Laws III, attorney for Erotic City, said today he was told by owners they had partly shut down the business. Erotic City at 8401 E. Truman Rd. remains open for the sale of magazines, videos and novelties, he said.

I learned 2 things from the story. First, I never have heard of Blue Summit before. And I didn't know that a "14-year-old girl" said that she had sex with "up to 20 men" in an "orgy room" at Erotic City. My, oh my!

One of the commenters to the Prime Buzz site says, " I don't think you can or should legislate morality." But isn't that what we do all the time? Law, Ethics and Morals. They are connected!

Should everything that I think is immoral be illegal? Of course not. But come on. I hate that the fact that when I'm heading to my home and I exit off Interstate 435 and travel east on Truman Road, I have to past that slime pit of a place. That is prime real estate that is being wasted because of the sleaze providers on that strip (and the lack of adequate zoning).

It is Truman Road! As in Harry S Truman. Doesn't that name mean something to people? Why don't we have a Truman Road Corrider that is worthy of the great man? (And please, I'm not so ignorant to think that Harry Truman didn't lust in his heart and who knows what else he might have done, that doesn't mean Erotic City should get a prime piece of real estate on the street where I live.
